Abstract
The article discusses various aspects of the art of war among the Lamut Even in the 17th–18th centuries (armaments, ammunition, command system, size of military units), focusing on the reindeer riders, or so called reindeer cavalry. The author describes the possible tactics these riders might have employed in the fi eld of action, and considers a hypothesis of the origin of those tactics as a result of contacts with the Tungus horse cavalries.
