It is expected that authors submitting their articles to the journal prepare their manuscripts in accordance with the submission guidelines. The working language for submissions and publications in the journal is currently Russian. Authors who intend to prepare their articles in a language other than Russian first, and then have them translated to Russian, are advised to ask the translator to consult the Russian version of the guidelines. For reference lists and citations, authors may follow the Chicago Manual of Style (16th ed., the Author-Date System) with two modifications: 1) year and page numbers (in text citations in parentheses) are separated by the colon, not comma — that is, as in this example (Smith 1978: 25-26); and 2) article titles are not enclosed in quotation marks. This style is very similar to the one used in the Current Anthropology journal.
The journal publishes original works that have not been published in other printed or electronic editions. In the case an author has simultaneously submitted the manuscript to another journal for consideration, s/he will have to withdraw it from that journal, once the manuscript has been approved and accepted for publication in Etnograficheskoe obozrenie.
If the manuscript submitted contains photos, images, or other copyrighted material, such as documents from private archives, etc., a written permission from the owner or copyright holder must be provided for each image or document used. The author is responsible for securing all permissions and delivering them to the editorial office in the timely manner.
Once the manuscript has been approved and accepted for publication, the author is required by the publisher to sign an agreement that regulates the copyright transfer and other legal matters related to the publication.
