Abstract
The article discusses the vicissitudes of private life of Nicholas Miklouho-Maclay (alternatively spelled as Nikolai Miklukho-Maklai; 1846-88), a remarkable Russian traveler and scholar whose image is wrapped in a haze of legends and tales. The author disproves the claim that the “white Papuan” might have been pedophile and bisexual.
