Abstract
The article discusses the life of a Tajik settlement through the prism of migration processes and their impact on the structure of a rural community and presence in the everyday reality of the settlements inhabitants. A large-scale labor migration shapes new social realities, being reflected in everyday practices as well as important life-cycle events (marriages, etc.); it further alters the structure of consumption and material demands. The examination of migration processes through the study of a single settlement helps to understand both the common aspects of labor migrations coming out of Tajikistan, with their ways of infl uencing social life, and the particular regional aspects.
