Ethnicity: Both a Construction and a Reality

Abstract

The article analyzes historical data on the changing ethnicity among peoples of Western Siberia in the past, and discusses the connection between ethnic identity and self-denomination/ethnonyms; it further inquires into the origin of a number of ethnonyms and their ties to the names of peoples.
