Abstract
In the interview Sergei Arutyunov, professor and senior ethnographer of the Russian Academy of Sciences, reflects on notions of the culture of ethnic subsistence and on the reasons that the studies of material culture in Soviet/Russian ethnography went a specific way; he further talks about their past and future, and ponders over the case of interdisciplinary conceptualization of material culture in the study of rural Armenia.
