Abstract
In the course of heated debates, the editor-in-chief of the encyclopedia “Mythologies of Peoples of the World” [Mify narodov mira], Sergei Tokarev, who had not previously accepted a structuralist analysis of myths, admitted the validity of alternative approaches to studying mythology and thus was able to finalize work on the seminal publication which marked a certain turn in understanding the history of world culture.
