Abstract

The article focuses on nomadic schools, a new phenomenon in the spheres of education and culture of indigenous peoples of the Russian North. The author discusses the purposes of organizing such schools as well as the different positions of officials and parents on the effectiveness of the new education system. She takes the case of a Dolgan nomadic kindergarten school in Khatanga district (Taymyr) to examine the ways in which the daily routine and regulations of the school intersect with the everyday life of a family of reindeer herders.
