Abstract
The overlap of language policy and national security issues, although recognized in many respects, rarely draws the attention of researchers. The paper deals with some of the issues of the current language policy in Russian Federation, including the political risks of its implementation in a multinational state and current problems of official languages instruction at the level of primary school education, as well as the choice of foreign languages for learning both at school and university levels.
