Abstract

The article introduces the special theme of the issue focusing on social and cultural change among the indigenous peoples of the North in the context of intensifying globalization and urbanization. The authors (O.A. Povoroznyuk, D.A. Funk, P. Schweitzer, E. Ruttkay-Miklian, E. Liarskaya) discuss a range of topics and problems including the forms that urban settlements of indigenous peoples take; specificities of migration patterns; transformation of social structure and traditional cultural taboos; technosocial networks and politics of identity; impact of transportation infrastructure on ethnic and cultural composition of indigenous groups; and others.
