Abstract
The article discusses the emergence of social community of cancer patients in Russia of the 2000s in the context of transformations that have been occurring both in the ideology and practices of health care. Belonging to this community implies both an imposed identity and trauma identity that alter the personality in various ways. What is the part that the state, businesses, and public organizations play in this social matter? The author addresses this question, drawing on the outcome of research conducted over the last decade.
