Abstract
The author examines the Russian regional experience in preservation and development of Finno-Ugric languages of the Uralic linguistic family and discusses legal instruments for the management of language relations such as laws on languages existing in Mari El, Udmurtia, and Karelia, as well as structures of executive power and government actors involved in political-linguistic relations (federal and regional ministries); she further surveys the available sociolinguistic data.
