Abstract

This article is an introduction to the issue’s thematic section on “Composts and Palimpsests: Russian Dachas in the Focus of Social Sciences”, featuring contributions by T.G. Nefedova, A.K. Kasatkina, E.V. Popova and N.E. Nevedomskaya, M.V. Vasekha and E.F. Fursova, O.Y. Malinova-Tziafeta. We provide a brief assessment of the contributions, discussing their originality, as well as geographical, theoretical, and thematic diversity, and trace the continuity between the present-day dacha studies and the 1990–2000s debates in the area of economic sociology of Russian dachas. The article highlights the current gaps in research on dachas, emphasizing its wide range and rich potential.
