Abstract
This article is an introduction to the thematic section of the issue on “Anthropological Research in the South-East Europe”, presenting contributions by scholars from Bulgaria (P. Hristov), Serbia (I. Ðorđević, L. Gavrilović), Croatia (I. Prica), Greece (E.-M. Papamichael), and USA (M.E. Harkin), which provide an overview of the development of ethnology/anthropology in the South-East of Europe throughout the latest decades. The article focuses on concepts and theoretical stances of scholars in the region, and discusses the foundations and developments that helped them extend significance and reach of their work beyond the local scope. The author outlines the main themes, issues, and areas of research in the present-day disciplinary traditions of various countries in the SouthEast Europe and reflects on the prospects of their development.
