Abstract
This article introduces a special theme of the issue discussing the area of research that could be broadly termed as the “interaction of humans with the world of fauna” and that draws on explorations within anthrozoology which focuses on relationships between humans and animals at the level of species; ethnozoology which studies various bonds between people, ethnic groups, and animals; and ethnozoology as ethnoscience whose object of attention is all and any fauna species, and research subject is notions and conceptions about them in one or another cultural or ethnic milieu. The contributors are D.V. Vorobiev, N.S. Shishelov, A.A. Matusovskiy, and D.S. Gvozdikov.
